My name is Ryan McGreevy. I’m a software engineer working at the intersection of computational science and cloud infrastructure, based in Kokomo, Indiana.
For nine years I worked as a Research Programmer in the Theoretical and Computational Biophysics Group at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, developing HPC and GPU-accelerated software (C++, CUDA, Tcl/Tk) for the NAMD and VMD molecular dynamics programs, with a research focus on methods for structural biology. Much of that work is described in my publications and was taught at hands-on workshops I helped run.
Since 2019 I’ve run Panoptesoft, LLC, an AWS cloud computing business, on a part-time basis — configuring and provisioning Linux server images for EC2 using Terraform and Ansible. Alongside that work, I’ve been deliberately building current skills in DevOps and applied machine learning: I hold four AWS certifications (Solutions Architect – Associate, Machine Learning Engineer – Associate, Cloud Practitioner, and AI Practitioner), and I’ve been working hands-on with PyTorch, scikit-learn, and LangChain through a series of independent projects.
Before UIUC, I worked as a systems and software engineer on military flight simulators, as a laboratory assistant in analytical geochemistry, and as a pharmacy technician. I hold an M.Eng. in Bioinformatics from the University of Illinois Chicago and a B.A. in Biochemistry and Computer Science from St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading, gaming, and getting outdoors.
